Its seven private cabins are spaced roughly 150 feet apart, and five of them look out over a view that stretches up to 40 miles.
Owners Carl and Rhonda Rubadue run the place with the polish of a fine hotel. Carl is a retired Certified Executive Chef who spent his career in hospitality. Each cabin comes stocked with farm-fresh eggs from the property’s own chickens, local smoked Canadian bacon, biscuits, fresh fruit, and locally roasted coffee. Guests can prepare breakfast just the way they like it in their cabin’s full kitchen, enjoying some of the best local ingredients the Hill Country has to offer. Every cabin has a full kitchen and a private bath, but cable and satellite TV are deliberately left out. Instead, the entertainment involves tossing corn to the deer and handing treats to the cows. The Milky Way and Siesta cabins have rooftop decks for viewing sunsets, meteors, and stars galore!
When guests do want to explore, Carl and Rhonda are happy to share the local scoop. They hand out wine-tasting coupons for nearby wineries and point the way to the bat emergence at Old Tunnel State Park. That personal touch has kept the property ranked first among Fredericksburg’s specialty lodging on TripAdvisor since the couple’s second year of ownership. Guests on Booking.com have rated it between 9.6 and 9.8 for seven years running. Now Walnut Canyon Cabins can add their 2026 Best of Texas Award to the list. Up on the ridge, the coffee’s probably already brewing to celebrate.
