Follow the Music Across Town

Follow the Music Across Town

Some festivals give you one field and a wristband. LEVITATION gives Austin four days, more than 20 shows and a reason to keep moving from one side of the city to the next.

Running September 10–13, the 2026 festival spreads through Radio/East, Stubb’s, Mohawk, Empire, Hotel Vegas, Elysium, 13th Floor and other Austin venues. Radio/East serves as the central hub with two stages, while club and late-night shows stretch through the Red River District, East Austin and beyond.

That setup suits Austin especially well. The city’s music culture has always depended as much on rooms as headliners, and LEVITATION makes those rooms part of the weekend rather than background scenery.

One Festival, Plenty of Doors

The 2026 program crosses psych rock, punk, metal, darkwave, indie and electronic music, which means the experience can change considerably over the course of a few blocks. A night might begin with one band at Mohawk, continue somewhere down Red River and finish in a smaller room where the crowd, volume and mood have shifted completely.

Even the festival passes encourage movement. LEVITATION notes that its four-day pass, now sold out, was designed so attendees could move among Radio/East, Stubb’s, Mohawk and Hotel Vegas when favorite bands landed at different venues. Three-day Radio/East passes and individual show tickets remain available.

There is something refreshingly Austin about that arrangement. Instead of building a temporary entertainment district and asking everyone to stay inside it, the festival plugs into places already hosting music year-round.

Letting the City Pick the Next Set

That makes discovery part of the appeal. More than 20 shows are scheduled across the four days, giving people room to build a weekend around one must-see act or abandon the plan entirely once another room starts sounding more interesting.

The format also turns the trip between sets into part of the night. You leave one venue, step back onto an Austin street, grab a few minutes of air and decide where the music takes you next. The city never disappears behind festival gates.

For a place that has spent decades tying its identity to live music, that may be LEVITATION’s smartest trick. Austin is not simply where the festival happens. For four September days, Austin becomes the festival.
