McKinney's Best Bite Yet

Some cakes just taste like somebody's grandmother made them, even when grandma had nothing to do with it. Not the boxed-mix kind. Not the kind rushed off a conveyor belt in a grocery store bakery, either. The kind assembled with unreasonable amounts of care, where every slice makes people put their forks down and ask who made it. After more than 30 years of baking, Marie decided retirement was the perfect time to turn that experience into a business of her own. On March 11, 2025, she officially launched Marie's Crafty Cakery, a cottage bakery in McKinney turning birthdays, showers, and ordinary Tuesdays into something worth celebrating.

Custom cakes are the heart of the operation, from towering birthday showpieces to elegant wedding centerpieces, but the menu doesn't stop there. Cupcakes get ordered by the dozen for office parties and last-minute cravings, and the gourmet cookies have their own following among regulars who order them just because they can. The real signature, though, is the frosting: creamy as whipped cream and never overly sweet. It's reportedly the reason customers keep coming back before they've even finished the first cake. The bakery sums up its whole approach as “Baked with Love,” and it shows. Every order, whether it feeds two people or two hundred, gets treated like the only one on the schedule that week.

That kind of attention doesn't go unnoticed. Marie's Crafty Cakery recently earned a 2026 Best of Texas Award, recognition that makes an exciting new chapter even sweeter. Everything down to the smallest cupcake gets “Crafted with Care,” bringing Marie's decades of baking experience to every order. For anyone in Collin County still deciding where the next celebration cake comes from, that decision just got a lot easier.
