Paint Horses, Lakeside Trails

Paint Horses, Lakeside Trails

Plenty of kids around Fort Worth grew up on Saturday-morning westerns. Touch of Chrome Trailrides lets those grown-up cowpokes and their kids swing into a real saddle. The outfit rides seven days a week near Benbrook Lake, about 15 miles south of the city. Its purebred American Paint Horses have flashy markings that inspired the name.

Founder Judy Greenway has spent her life breeding and showing horses. Safety comes first with experienced guides who grew up around horses, plus a lesson before every ride. One-hour rides cost $80 and wind through woods and across a creek. A 90-minute ride costs $105, with gnomes to spot along the way without stopping. The two-hour Cliff Side ride costs $120 and offers lake views. Riders must be at least five and under 230 pounds. Most rides start at 5900 Rocky Creek Park Road, though weather sometimes changes the location. All five trails are within 30 minutes of that address, and guests receive a confirmation text the day before.

The horses' happiness matters just as much as the ride. They're well-fed, comfortably housed, regularly washed, vaccinated, and carefully tended, and the team often works with rescues. Sunset rides add lakeside magic, while groups of up to 30 can book three consecutive hours, with 10 riders each hour. The year-round loyalty card makes every sixth ride free, whether guests visit annually for the holidays or several times a year. Riders come from around the world, tell friends, and share their adventures on TikTok. As Touch of Chrome celebrates its 2026 Best of Texas Award, its greatest appreciation goes to those wonderful customers who keep the trails busy and the stories traveling.
