The Past Is Up for Grabs!
Texas has never been particularly shy about collecting things. Give us enough square footage, a few generations, and a good backstory, and chances are, somebody has saved something worth hunting down.
Big Rooms, Better Stories
In Dallas, Legacy Antiques & Modern takes the polished route. The fourth-generation family business packs more than 22,000 square feet with European antiques, midcentury furniture, Murano glass, restored lighting, mirrors, and architectural pieces. This is the kind of place where a lamp can become the reason you rearrange an entire room.
Head south to Spring, and the scale gets even more Texan. Antique Gallery Houston stretches across 85,000 square feet and brings together nearly 250 dealers. Furniture shares space with estate jewelry, art glass, quilts, records, toys, and international pieces, giving shoppers plenty of reasons to keep poking around beyond the first aisle.
In downtown San Antonio, Alamo Antique Mall fills three floors with Western pieces, military items, glassware, pottery, jewelry, silver, coins, and other collectibles. The mix feels appropriately Texas: a little refined, a little rugged, and never entirely predictable.
Then There’s Round Top
Of course, Texas antiquing eventually leads to Round Top. The Original Round Top Antiques Fair brings shoppers to town for major seasonal shows each winter, spring, and fall. Don’t miss this year’s fall show, slated for October 25-31. It’s the sort of outing where measuring the trunk before leaving home starts to look less overly prepared and more like common sense.
Taken together, these stops make antique shopping less about filling an empty corner and more about what happens when you find the right thing for it. A free Saturday can turn up a century-old cabinet, a strange little collectible, or the one piece you passed twice before deciding nobody else should get it.
