The Shot Everyone Reposts

Katy families have a particular ritual: someone posts a new photo in the group chat, and for the next ten minutes nobody responds to anything else. Little cousins zoom in on newborn swaddles and moms save graduation shots as their lock screen. Someone always asks who took the photo. More often than not, the answer traces back to Miguel Opacic Photo Studio. Its owner has spent two decades chasing exactly those moments, camera in hand, from backyard nurseries to a Houston Astros championship parade.

Miguel Opacic came to photography through his own family first. He started out photographing his kids, sharpening his eye for composition one portrait at a time, with his wife, Skarlett, cheerfully coaching him along the way. That instinct now runs through the whole calendar. Newborn and maternity sessions are timed to the narrow window when babies go blissfully limp, and smash cake and milestone shoots let first birthdays get properly messy. Professional headshots look polished enough for a company directory or a LinkedIn photo, and seniors and grads leave with images built for the family wall and the graduation announcement. He works just as comfortably in English as in Spanish, a detail plenty of clients mention first.

That range, plus a habit of treating every session like it might end up on someone's mantel, helped earn Miguel Opacic Photo Studio their 2026 Best of Texas Award. The studio is based in Katy and its owner is a member of the Professional Photographers of America. Its reputation rests less on gear and more on patience: waiting for the right light and the right smile, then holding for the one unscripted second between poses. For families across the Katy area, that's the difference between a nice photo and the one that ends up framed.
