This Burrito Means Business!
A deep-fried burrito is an unlikely corporate strategist. Yet in Odessa, Allsup’s beef-and-bean staple helps explain how a convenience store can turn a roadside stop into a habit, with room in the transaction for considerably more than lunch.
Yesway’s new Allsup’s location in Odessa opened September 21 at 16460 South Highway 385. The 5,630-square-foot store operates 24 hours a day, with 10 fuel dispensers, five diesel lanes and 11 truck parking spaces. Inside, the inventory runs from hot food and private-label snacks to bread, milk and eggs.
It is Yesway’s 93rd newly constructed store in approximately five years. The Fort Worth-based company operates 450 locations across nine states, giving a familiar regional food an expanding network of places to find it.
The business proposition begins with recognition. Drivers can buy fuel from plenty of roadside competitors. A signature burrito gives them a specific order to remember and a reason to choose the same sign again. That familiarity can build loyalty while bringing customers through the door, where drinks, snacks and everyday essentials offer additional purchases.
Odessa’s layout serves several versions of that transaction. A resident might need groceries and something hot to eat. A professional driver needs diesel access and somewhere to park. A traveler needs a stop that makes the next stretch manageable. The store combines those practical needs with a food people can seek out by name.
The Allsup’s menu reinforces that identity. Its beef-and-bean burrito appears alongside beef-and-cheese chimichangas, Buffalo chicken burritos and Hatch green chile offerings. Branded hot food gives the company something distinctive to sell, while Yesway’s private-label products extend its presence onto the shelves.
Together, those offerings illustrate how convenience retail is making food a stronger reason to visit. The opportunity is to earn a stop even when the fuel gauge does not demand one, then make that visit useful enough to repeat.
There is a telling detail in the Allsup’s location finder: shoppers can filter for the Allsup’s burrito, just as they can for diesel, prepared food or 24-hour service. Lunch has earned its own place among the infrastructure.
For West Texas communities, the expansion adds access to food, fuel and necessities. For Yesway, the challenge is making each new building feel like a dependable choice. The fryer has a substantial assignment: give customers something worth coming back for.
