Flashlights, Fireworks and Cornfields!
Texas has always had a complicated relationship with fall. The calendar says pumpkins and corn mazes, while the afternoon temperature occasionally has other ideas. Fortunately, October gets considerably more cooperative after sunset.
At Hall’s Pumpkin Farm & Corn Maze in Grapevine, the 2026 season runs through November 1, with Friday and Saturday hours stretching until 9 p.m. The farm’s two-acre corn maze can be tackled during daylight, but visitors looking for an extra challenge are encouraged to bring a flashlight and try it after dark.
That simple change completely alters the usual fall-farm rhythm. Once the sun goes down, rows of corn become harder to read, flashlights replace wide-open views and a warm Texas afternoon gives way to the kind of evening that finally feels appropriate for October.
Texas Fall Finds Its Hours
At At’l Do Farms in Lubbock, evening is built into the schedule. The farm’s 2026 season runs through November 7, with Tuesday through Friday hours from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays also continue until 9, giving West Texans plenty of time to wait out the afternoon heat before heading into the maze.
In Cleburne, Mainstay Farm takes the after-dark idea a step further with Mainstay Nights. During October, Friday hours run from 5 to 9 p.m. and most Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the farm lighting up after sunset. Pumpkins, rides, food and other attractions continue into the evening rather than wrapping up when daylight disappears.
Cornfields With a Grand Finale
At Sweet Eats Adventure Farm in Georgetown, October nights run even later. The farm stays open until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with a 4.5-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch and dozens of farm activities.
Then come the fireworks. Friday and Saturday nights in October include fireworks displays, except Halloween, giving the traditional pumpkin-patch outing a distinctly Texas finish.
Maybe that is the state’s version of crisp-air fall. Instead of sweaters at three in the afternoon, there are glowing farms, flashlight mazes and fireworks after dark.
In Texas, autumn sometimes has the good sense to wait until sunset.
