Pass the Plate, Share the Love
Ready to put a little extra good on the table this holiday season? Roll up your sleeves to serve meals, distribute groceries, answer phones, and help make the holidays a little easier for neighbors who could use a hand.
In Round Rock, Love Serve Feed kicks things off with its 15th Annual Thanksgiving Feast & Celebration on Nov. 21. Volunteers will help serve more than 2,500 hot holiday meals, hand out groceries, and pitch in throughout the celebration outside Hernandez Middle School. The Thanksgiving volunteer sign-up is where you can claim a volunteer role or see which food items are still needed.
Pull Up a Chair, Pitch In
The giving continues with H-E-B’s Feast of Sharing, a series of free holiday dinners held in communities across the state. The Austin gathering lands Nov. 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Palmer Events Center. Volunteer information for the Austin event is still to come, so check back if you want to help serve. The broader Feast of Sharing tradition relies on volunteers to help turn these big community meals into something that feels a little more like sitting down together.
Keep the Good Going
December brings another way to help through the Houston Food Bank. ABC13’s annual Share Your Holidays Food Drive benefits the food bank, with a live broadcast on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1. You can also volunteer for the Share Your Holidays Phone Bank from Nov. 30 through Dec. 4, registering callers to reserve special holiday food boxes. Spanish-speaking volunteers are especially needed.
Bread of Life keeps the giving going into December with two food distributions in Houston. On Dec. 2, volunteers can sign up for a morning shift from 9 a.m. to noon, helping distribute food to families. Another food distribution follows Dec. 19, offering one more chance to lend a hand before Christmas.
There’s plenty of room to choose how you show up this season. Serve a plate in Round Rock, keep an eye out for a Feast of Sharing volunteer shift, work the phones in Houston, or spend a morning distributing food and supplies. No matter which option you choose, a few hours of your time can put something useful directly into someone else’s holiday!
