Where Wellness Puts Down Roots
There's something special about watching a small-town business grow from a farmers market booth into a community favorite. For Down Home Roots Herbal in Jasper, that journey has been fueled by a passion for natural wellness and a growing number of customers eager to learn more about herbs and holistic health. What started at local farmers markets and festivals grew into a cozy 700-square-foot storefront in 2023. As happy customers spread the word, so did the need for more space. This past July, Down Home Roots Herbal opened the doors to a brand-new 3,600-square-foot store, giving its growing community even more room to explore everything the shop has to offer.
Inside, the shelves hold herbs by the ounce, tinctures, tonics and bitters, capsules, and loose-leaf teas, along with supplements for whole-body wellness. The real difference at Down Home Roots Herbal is the guidance behind them. The team's certified in herbal, holistic, naturopathic, homeopathic, and energetics practices, and they're always adding coursework in new specialty fields. Visitors can book an appointment and leave with a plan built around them rather than a one-size-fits-all bottle. The shop's in-house product line, now sold wholesale to more than 300 stores nationwide, carries the same promise as its motto: “Rooted in faith designed by research.”
Earning their 2026 Best of Texas Award makes sense for a business that's grown almost entirely on word of mouth. Down Home Roots Herbal has turned the search for natural wellness into something closer to a neighborly chat, the kind that happens over a counter instead of in a comment section. Even the tea bar pitches in, with weekly steeps and a creamy cherry hibiscus lemonade that gives first-timers an easy reason to wander in. For a community that's watched this shop outgrow its first home in just three years, the next chapter may call for even more shelf space.
